This job in a nutshell

Do you love designing the architecture for complex applications? Can you convince CIOs to accept a roadmap for their ICT environment? Do you like the intense nature of iterative software development? Are you familiar with the principles of agile working as well? In that case, BDO Digital has a great challenge to offer you!
As one of a small team of specialised consultants, you will play an extremely important role in the expansion of our IT architecture consulting services. In other words, this vacancy is related to BDO Digital’s growth.

Join the BDO family, a worldwide consulting firm where you can bring your own personality to your job! We help organisations grow sustainably with our expertise in audit & assurance, tax & legal, advisory and accountancy.

At BDO, you are not just a number. Your wellbeing and development are just as important to us as the personal, hands-on advice and pragmatic solutions we offer our clients. Because as you grow, so do we and so do our clients. That is why our slogan is 'Let's Grow Together'!

What will you be doing?

As an Enterprise Architect you gather an impression of the general application landscape at large companies and in direct consultation with higher IT management, up to and including the executive level, use this to develop a vision on the company’s future ICT, defend it to higher management and help make it happen.

To achieve this, an Enterprise Architect engages closely with clients, their development team, infrastructure, project management, etc.

  • You establish and follow architectural guidelines for larger software projects/programmes (3 or more scrum teams).

  • In close collaboration with clients, you assess their application landscape in relation to their business and strategy.

  • In consultation with clients, you initiate development projects in accordance with their strategy and business needs.

  • You are willing to “get your hands dirty”, to commit to achieving such projects and to lead teams.

  • You act as a sounding board within BDO Digital, communicating the vision, providing support and giving advice to project teams, programmes and management.

  • You use rational arguments to make and defend technological choices. You use technology stacks of proven value, while also preparing for the future by introducing and encouraging innovation.

  • You introduce innovative ideas within the organisation and ensure that these are picked up by other teams.

  • Due to your pivotal position, you also have some responsibilities relating to people management and manage and evaluate employees. You actively practise talent management.

What do you bring to the table?

  • Ideally, you have around 15 years of work experience, during which you gained experience as a lead developer, grew to be a Solution Architect and want to advance to Enterprise Architect.

  • You have strong communication skills, both within your team and towards clients. You can express your ideas in “simple terms” to less technically inclined conversation partners. To this end, you are highly fluent in Dutch, proficient in English and can preferably express yourself in French as well.

  • Extensive experience with Java Enterprise Edition or .NET is essential.

  • You understand complex application landscapes and have experience with integration technology and large databases.

  • You have a range of methods to determine and define functional and non-functional requirements for applications.

  • You also have experience with application analysis, design, implementation and delivery.

  • You can design application and ICT landscape architecture, incorporating all the various non-functional requirements such as security, performance and scalability, and communicate these to multiple teams.

  • Your expertise gives you a clear view of the (technical) risks in terms of impact and probability and enables you to establish mitigation strategies.

  • You have plenty of operational knowledge of network management, system management, cloud (Azure, AWS, etc.), etc.

  • You have experience with or an interest in cloud native architecture.

  • You are familiar with such concepts as OO, Design patterns, domain-driven design, refactoring and unit testing.

  • A results-oriented, no-nonsense approach makes you feel right at home.

  • You have an entrepreneurial spirit, do not shy away from challenging discussions and are happy to defend your point of view.

  • You are eager to learn, pragmatic and sufficiently organised so that stress has less of an impact on you.

What do we bring to the table?

  • Culture: you will join a family of experts who encourage respect, diversity and teamwork. You work in an open culture, so feel free to speak to anyone, at any level

  • Development: you decide the direction of your career, and we support you where necessary. Our BDO Academy provides a whole range of training courses to help.

  • Impact: from day 1 you will be given responsibility, with support from your team.

  • Network: you can work on different projects and clients, across business practices.

  • Flexibility: you choose where you work with flexible working hours.

  • Wellbeing: your physical and mental health is important to us.

  • Salary: you receive a competitive salary package with interesting benefits.

  • Sustainability: you work within a company with an integrated sustainability policy.
