We are currently looking for an experienced VAT consultant to join our VAT and Customs Business Practice in Ghent as a (Senior) Manager.

What will you be doing?

After an orientation and training period, you will join a team that provides confidential advice to clients on aspects of their policies relating to VAT, as well as support with Belgian and EU VAT compliance.
Your job includes the following duties:



  • Advising clients on VAT compliance in both national and international contexts;

  • Allocating and planning your employees’ tasks and supervising their management and checking of files, both in terms of compliance and advice;

  • Coordinating Belgian and EU VAT compliance support for Belgian SMEs and multinationals together with your fellow members of the BDO Indirect Tax Compliance team;

  • Coordinating Pan-European VAT compliance projects for multinationals and maintaining close contact with other members of our BDO network;

  • You are responsible for independently handling important files (in collaboration with the Partner for each file). You can also call on our organisation’s (international) specialists in taxation and tax law to help you with this. Additionally, you are expected to work closely with our registered auditors and accountants as needed;

  • You will report directly to our Tax Partners and, along with your colleagues and employees, are responsible for your department’s further development and the expansion and optimisation of existing customer relationships

What do you bring to the table?

Your experience and educational background



  • Diploma of Higher Education, preferably a Master of Law or Economy with additional tax training;

  • At least six years of relevant professional experience at a large tax firm;

  • Certified Tax Adviser status or prepared to obtain this qualification;

  • Native speaker of Dutch, with written and spoken proficiency in French and English.


Your skills



  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken;

  • Good knowledge of MS Office (mainly Excel, Word and PowerPoint);

  • Good knowledge of EU VAT compliance;

  • Strong, dynamic personality, with a drive and commitment to help expand our VAT team;

  • Commercial awareness, quality-oriented;

  • Proactive, sense of initiative and responsibility;

  • Team player with good people management skills.
